This is the Day

“This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

Sunday night my wife and I were out late and on our way home I said, “I’m not looking forward to tomorrow. It’s going to be a long day.” I had already doomed my Monday with the words from my mouth. My wife then scolded me in a very loving way, ha. She said that I needed to have a better attitude and it really got me thinking.

I am by far not a morning person. After hitting the snooze button way too many times, I roll myself out of bed and then have to rush to get ready for work. My wife says the first thing out of my mouth every morning is, “Oh Crap!!” (Excuse the language.)

This week I’ve gotten up a little bit earlier and have really tried to start each day off with a better attitude. I’ve been waking up singing, “This is the day. This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice, I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

It’s funny how just a little change like that can impact your day. I’ve been tired from a long weekend and the whole time change thing, but I’ve also come to work with a better attitude. I’ve also noticed that I’m less aggravated in traffic in the morning (which is a miracle in itself, ha).

Everyday isn’t going to be a great day. There are going to be days where you feel horrible and don’t want to deal with anything. There will be days where life’s problems weigh you down. But if you choose to start each day praising God instead of complaining, you’ll find that the day goes by much smoother.

That’s my challenge to you this week. I know it’s a short column, but I think if we would all wake up with God on our mind, we would see a significant change in the way our days unfold. “Put Him First” and everything else will fall into place.
