Not Going Anywhere
I'm going to take a note or two from the message preached at my church on Sunday. The pastor was talking about being stuck and it related to me on so many different levels. I think we've all been there at times, when in life it seems like we're not going anywhere. We seem to have gotten in a rut, going in circles, not being able to accomplish anything.
What do you do when you're stuck? Do you give up on life? Do you pity yourself and just give in to mediocre? Do you run away from God or do you seek Him even more? We should try harder to get into God’s presence in those times, but that’s not always the case. It really takes an effort on our behalf to choose to search for that breakthrough.
The enemy would like nothing more than to see us doing nothing. When we’re at a standstill, he’s got us just where he wants us. God hasn’t called us to live a boring and unproductive life. I believe He has a purpose and a call in every one of our lives. Most of the time it’s our own self that holds us back from fulfilling God’s call.
“Because of laziness the building decays, and through idleness of hands the house leaks.” (Ecclesiastes 10:18)
Are you reading your Bible? Are you praying everyday? Are you making an effort to seek God in your personal life? Are you going to church? Are you trusting Him in every area of your life? Are you growing spiritually? Are you surrounding yourself with other men and women of God that encourage and uplift you?
Sometimes we feel stuck because we can’t let go of our past. You’ve asked God to take those thoughts away, but they still haunt you. You feel like you can’t be forgiven. Those cravings of the flesh keep tempting you. There may be someone you can’t forgive because of what they did to you. Repenting is turning away from sin to follow God. Whatever your past may be, when you ask God into your heart, you are forgiven. It’s time to let go.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” (Luke 4:18)
Christ has come to set you free. Those chains that have you bound can be broken. Your breakthrough will only come when you totally surrender all to God. The past may always be there, but the past doesn’t have to control you. You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. You are a holy nation and a chosen vessel. You are loved by God, His precious jewel and His most valuable treasure.
If you’re “Not Going Anywhere” in life, there may be something that you need to work on. I believe it was Albert Einstein that said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The children of Israel roamed the wilderness for forty years murmuring and complaining. It wasn’t until a generation passed away and the new generation believed and trusted in God that they finally made it to the promise land.
Is God trying to show you something? Is there an area in your life that needs to change? I believe God will let us keep going in circles, in the same situation, until we finally learn from our mistakes. He won’t take us to that new level until we finish the one we are on because we wouldn’t be prepared for it if He did. God loves us too much. He wants the best for us.
If you’re feeling stuck today, maybe it’s time to take a step back and re-examine your life. Take a personal inventory of where your walk with God is. Go to Him in prayer and fasting and ask Him to show you that next step. Be proactive in your faith. Don’t wait around for the answer to come to you, go to God with every problem, failure, hurt, pain, issue, sin you have in your life. Let go of the past, learn from your mistakes and let God do that work within you today.
