LAST COLUMN TILL 2005!!!

I’ve talked it over with my slave-driving manager, Gabe, and we decided that this would be the last column of the year. I’m going to be out of town next week, so we’re going to finish off strong this year, and come back in 2005 ready to “Put Him First” in everything we do.

It’s going to be 2005!!! Wow!!! I never thought I’d make it this far. Truthfully, who thought we’d be around to see 2000, much less 2005? The last eight months have been a roller coaster ride getting this website up and running. We’re blessed to have each and every one of you as “users” and “guests”. (We’re almost up to 100 users, so if you haven’t signed up…) I’m amazed that God has allowed me to write for you each week. I thought by now you’d all be tired of hearing me ramble on and on. (JK, well at least I hope you’re not).

The other day I was reading in the paper an advertisement a local church puts out each week called “Something To Think About…” The title of this particular ad was “Won’t You Let Him In?” and it kind of related to the column I wrote a few weeks ago called “Knock Knock” (See Geno’s Columns Archives).

Dr. Jim Moore says in the ad, “Five little words in the gospel of Luke say it all… ‘no Room…in the Inn.’ There is a certain pathos in those words. That was the very first thing the world said to Jesus Christ…and that experience would plague Him the remainder of His days on this earth…and, indeed, even to this present moment – No Room!”

It got me to thinking about my own life. How many times do we turn Jesus aside because we have no room for Him in our lives? Our lives are filled with so much busyness. Work and school and play and running from here to there, buying this and that, especially during the Christmas season that takes up so much of our time. We get so involved in everything that we miss out on the blessing of having Jesus come in and sup with us (Revelation 3:20).

Think about it. Imagine the “Inn” that turned Joseph and Mary away. If they would have made room for Jesus, they would have been known in the Bible as the birthplace of Christ. Instead of singing “Away in a Manger”, we’d be singing “Away at Bethlehem Inn” or something like that. Too many times we miss out on our blessing because we turn away Jesus at the door of our hearts.

This Christmas Season I pray that we keep our lives open to the possibility that Jesus just might just show up at our house. We don’t have to wait up with cookies to see Him come down the chimney. He is always there knocking on the door of our hearts. Love you all and see you next year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR from PUTHIMFIRST.com!!!!!!
