2004 is finally over. Isn’t that a refreshing thought? A New Year begins with the opportunity to start afresh. Many of us say that every year, but I believe that 2005 is the year where God is going to do great and miraculous things in and through His church.

For me, it’s got to be this year. That breakthrough has got to come. I don’t know why, but even as I’m writing this, something is starting to stir up within me. 2004 is behind us and 2005 is ahead.
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
I took last week off from writing the column and truthfully, I missed it, but I know that God was using that time to do something within me. As I was driving back to Houston from Raton, (I went home for a week) He was showing me that in order to be a more effective writer in 2005, I need to spend more time listening to His voice and reading His word.
So as I sat down to start writing the column this week, I had so many thoughts and things going through my head. I wanted to write about all the madness going on around the world with the earthquakes and floods, but God was showing me something else through all of this. While people are living in fear of terrorists and diseases and nature and everything else, I feel like God is beginning to pour out His peace and comfort to His children. Along with that, I see an outpouring of His presence and His anointing about to flood the Church.

I feel God is saying that this is the year of breakthrough. This is the year where we’re going to see Him move in ways unimaginable. This is the year where He is going to make Himself known to all the world.

It’s time to get right. It’s time to give over that hidden sin in your life to Him. It’s time to surrender completely. It’s time to turn away from youthful lusts and worldly passions. It’s time to make Him the complete and only focus in your life. It’s time to PUT HIM FIRST this year in everything you do.

I don’t know what this year will bring. I don’t know what you have planned or what goals you’ve set, but one thing I know is that God is calling out to you right now. He wants to be your number 1 in 2005. He wants to do that work in your life that you never could have dreamed of. He wants to bless you in everything you do this year.

I’m not saying that everything’s going to be easy this year. I wish that were the case, but in order for you to do great things for Christ it’s going to take great sacrifice. It’s going to take a willingness to put aside your own desires in exchange for His desires.

I started off the column this week with a song I wrote called “all to Thee”. It’s a song about repentance and surrendering everything to Christ. As this New Year begins, I ask you, “Are you right with God?” He’s waiting there with open arms ready to embrace you and forgive you of all you’ve done wrong. He wants to take that garbage in your life and turn it into a precious treasure. All you have to do is let go of what you’re holding onto and place it in His hands.

Even if you’ve already messed up and started the year off wrong, it’s not too late to start over. God doesn’t set a date that you can only start over on January 1. He’s a God of mercy and grace always willing to give you that second chance. Give it all over to Him today.
May the Lord keep you and guide you throughout this New Year as we GET READY to PUT HIM FIRST in 2005.
