Committed

God’s really been dealing with me in different areas since this New Year has begun. At church, it seems like message after message has been about prayer. I’ve been trying harder to pray more and trying harder to seek Him in every area of my life. Even here at this website, I’ve been praying more about what direction God wants to take this site and what He wants me to write from week to week. I’ve been praying that He would use this site to speak to His people, for I know that my own words mean nothing if His voice isn’t behind those words.

As I started writing this column, I heard God ask me, “Are you committed?”

“Committed?” I responded, “Of course I’m committed, Lord. I take time every week to sit down and write this column. I’ve only missed a couple of weeks since we started this site.”

I heard Him ask me again, “But are you committed?”

Again I responded, “Lord, You know my heart. You know that I seek Your Face from week to week asking You to give me words to write. You know that my intention behind my writing is only to glorify You.” Then I stopped and waited for a reply. I didn’t get one.

I started thinking about my life after that. What am I doing? Am I being effective in what I am doing? Sure, I go to church and I go to worship practice. I pray and read my Bible. I try and work on music everyday. I’m always writing something, but is that enough?

I was talking to someone the other day about some of my beliefs and the commitment I put into my church. They said to me, “I guess we were just raised differently. I don’t believe we have to be at every church service or every church function.”

And that’s fine. I’m not one to push God down people’s throats or force people to do anything they don’t want to do. I was just telling that person about what God had called me to do. Different people are called to different levels of commitment. I know awesome men and women of God that can’t make it to every church service and that doesn’t make them any less of a Christian. God made each and every one of us different, so why would we expect Him to require the same exact thing for each of us?

“…For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:48)

In my own personal life, I know that I must commit a lot of my time to Him. He has given me so much and has always been there for me. That’s why I write, because I’m grateful. That’s why I’m part of the worship team at my church. That’s why I do what I do, because He has already done so much for me.

What is your level of commitment? What has God called you to do? Are you putting forth your best effort? Are you a hundred percent committed to what He has for you?
I know that I have a long way to go. There’s always more that we can do. Let’s try this year to be more committed to what God has in store for us.

And I heard God say one last time, “Are you committed geno?” and I answered, “I’m trying Lord, help me to give more of myself to You.” And He said, “Just checking.”

Remember to always “Put Him First” and we’ll see you again next week.

geno
