Sleepwalking

I’ve been praying, “God what direction do You want us to take this website?” We’ve been around for awhile now and we’ve been blessed to have a great group of people sign up to be on our site, but as you can see, I’m sure, it seems like we haven’t been moving forward. It seems like we’ve been at a stand-still. And I know that reflects back on me as a main contributor to this website. If you haven’t noticed, we’ve had the same “Featured Artist” up for awhile now. Maybe it’s just laziness on our behalf, I don’t know, but we need a push or a shove or something to get us moving again.

That’s why I’m writing this column today, to ask for your help. Actually, I’m asking you to challenge us and keep us on our toes. We started PutHimFirst.com to be a place where Christians could come and get away from all the other mess that’s on the internet, as a place where we could focus on Christ and be reminded that He should be put first in our lives. We also wanted the site to be for you, about you and not just us. As much as I love writing the column, it shouldn’t be the only thing we come to PHF.com for. I guess, I also want to challenge you to become more a part of this site.

Have you grown comfortable in your Christian walk? Has God been challenging you to take steps of faith? Has going to church become a routine? Are you living up to your potential? God’s been challenging me. I’ve had to step back and look at my life. What have I been doing for Him lately? My life got into such a routine (go to work, go to church, write a column, go to music practice) that I realized that I had fallen asleep.

We’ve been having rallies the past two Sundays and God has really moved. We’ve been seeing great things happen in our church. People are starting to get more involved and we’ve seen salvations and rededications. And during all of this, God has been tugging at my heart to get busy and get to work (as you all remember from last week’s column).

I’ve heard stories about people that walk in their sleep. I’ve seen it on TV where they make it out to be funny. Here’s some guy walking in his sleep, going through an intersection barely missing getting hit by cars and then returning back to his bed without even knowing what he’s done. He’s clueless of what’s going on around him. Sometimes we get that way as Christians. We kind of just walk through life sleeping, oblivious to what’s going on around us.

God hasn’t called us to be “Sleepwalking Christians.” He’s called us to be ALIVE!!! We’re supposed to be the light in the midst of darkness. We are supposed to recognize the times we are living in. We’re living in a different world than we lived in 10 years ago. 10 years ago I wasn’t thinking about Hurricanes and Earthquakes and Floods and Fires and The Bird Flu and Terrorists. We’re living in a dying world. Thousands upon thousands of people are dying everyday and many are dying not knowing Christ. I don’t know about you, but that saddens me. It makes me want to forget about all my own petty problems and focus on what’s really important, reaching lost souls.

I know I’m not a great speaker or preacher. Actually, I’m not really a good people person. I don’t always have the right words to say or a loud voice to get people’s attention, but I know that He’s called me to spread His Word through my writing and my music. I know it’s important that I do my part in reaching the world for Jesus. That’s why I write, and maybe in doing so, I can stir you up. Maybe I can ignite that fire within you to get you to do your part.

I’m tired of sleepwalking. I’m tired of just going through the motions. I’m tired of the same old routine. I’m tired of saying I’m going to do something and then not following through with it. I’m tired of walking with no direction.

I’m not going to end this column telling you to “do this or do that” and everything will be just great. You know who you are. You know what you need to do. More than likely, if you’re reading this column you know about God. You know what’s required of you. I’m just here to try and WAKE YOU UP and get you WALKING in that calling He’s placed in your life.

w/muchluv,
geno
