Eyes Fixed
11 Down, 1 More To Go. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Day. It was good to be back home in Raton, New Mexico with family and to get away from Big City Living. I got to see a little bit of snow and eat a lot of turkey. Mmmmm Turrrrrkeyyyy. Well, November’s gone and we now head into the Christmas Season. Time flies way too fast. One more month and we’ll be celebrating a New Year.
We took off around 1:00 a.m. to go to Raton once I got off work on Wednesday/Thursday. It was a long drive. Actually it was a longer drive than normal. I got us a little lost. We ended up in Oklahoma somehow. I think someone switched the signs or something, because I could never get lost on my own (yeah right, geno).
I always have a hard time driving through Fort Worth, Texas. Why? I have no idea. I’ve been through there many times, but I always seem to miss an exit and end up having to turn around. I blame my brother Gabe and sister Celina this time because they were sleeping while I went through there. Normally Gabe yells at me and tells me which way to go.
I have a couple more excuses of course. It was early in the morning and I wasn’t really paying attention. I had been up all night and I was flipping through radio stations because the tape/CD converter wasn’t working. (My sister rented a car without a CD player. See it was Celina’s fault.) And so on and so on…The truth of the matter was that I messed up.
Instead of paying complete attention to the road and keeping my “Eyes Fixed” on where I was headed, I kind of took it for granted that I would automatically make it to my destination. I knew that I had always had trouble driving through Fort Worth, but I thought to myself, certainly I wouldn’t get lost this time. And I didn’t think I was lost. Not till my brother woke up and said, “WHERE ARE WE!!!!!!”
We get that way in life sometimes. Instead of keeping our “Eyes Fixed” on Jesus, we find ourselves just driving along with no direction. We get busy doing this or doing that and forget where we are supposed to be going. Our focus is supposed to be on Him. It’s so easy to get sidetracked and lost. He needs to be our destination.
“i keep my eyes fixed upon Your Face i keep my mind set upon Your ways i keep my soul in check by Your grace i keep my eyes fixed upon Your Face “
That’s the chorus to a song I wrote a few years ago called “Eyes Fixed”. We need to constantly remind ourselves to stay focused. We need to continue to “Put Him First” in our lives in everything we do. We need to always keep our lives headed down that long and narrow path that leads to salvation. There is only one way to reach our ultimate destination and that is through Jesus Christ of Nazareth, God’s only Son.
As you go about your week, I pray that you don’t get lost like I did. But if you do, just turn to the One who has the map to where you need to be. Keep your “Eyes Fixed” on Him and you won’t end up in Oklahoma.
w/muchluv, geno
