Now Go!
“Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” (Exodus 4:12)
Normally I don’t use the “Scripture of the Day” in the columns I write because Gabe will get mad and say that I stole his scripture or get a big head and say that he pretty much wrote the column for me, but I’ll make an exception today because it really grabbed my attention. (jk Gabe)
God is speaking to Moses in this scripture. He’s telling Moses to go back to Egypt and deliver the children of Israel from the hands of Pharaoh. Moses starts to get scared though, so he starts coming up with excuses. He tells God that he can’t speak well and that he doesn’t have eloquent words. Now get this, God Almighty is telling Moses that He is going to perform great signs through him. God is telling Moses exactly what to do and how it will happen. And here Moses is trying to get out of it.
I like what God says to Moses in the scripture before. “The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord?’” (Exodus 4:11)
I believe that God has given each of us a task. He’s given each of us a call and a purpose. He has a specific mission for you to go on. A lot of the time we start acting like Moses did in that situation. God will tell us to go witness to somebody and we will start making excuses. “God, I don’t know what to say to that person. What if they make fun of me? What if they get mad? What if I don’t know enough of the Bible?”
I know that I find this true with myself. There are some weeks where I sit down to write the column and all I have is a blank page in front of me. I say to myself, “What do I have to offer anybody? Nobody reads the columns anyways. What if my words aren’t reaching people? Am I just wasting time? I don’t know what to write, God.”
It’s in times like that where I need those reassuring words, “I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” In fact, I wasn’t even planning on writing about this topic this week. I had a few other ideas floating through my head, but after I saw this scripture, I knew that God was putting it in my heart to write this.
Now Go! It’s time we start doing what God has called us to do. It’s time we stop complaining about our inadequacies and realize that with God all things are possible. He once used a donkey to speak, why can’t He use you (Numbers 22). I know that if I focus and all my shortcomings, I wouldn’t be able to do anything for God. I can lead worship for a church full of people with God’s help, yet when I’m in front of a large group of people in the natural, I find myself nervous and stuttering and forgetting everything I wanted to say or do. Not saying I’m not nervous leading worship, but when the anointing takes over and God is there with you, you are able to do what He has called you to do.
It’s not about what we can do. It’s about what He can do through us. So many times we try to focus on our natural abilities, our natural talents. We think that we have to have all the right skills or degrees to do something for God. Sure those things are good, but it’s not the talent that keeps you. It’s not the degree on the wall that keeps you. Yes, sometimes those things will get you there, but it is God’s anointing that will keep you there.
We’ve been talking about “Going to Another Level” in our church the last few months. I really believe that we are there. God has been doing amazing things at our services. He’s been moving in a powerful way. And I hope that He’s been moving in your life as well. Once you get to that new level, the question is, “How do we stay at that level?” I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go back to where I was.
We stay in that new level by keeping ourselves pure from those influences that will try to get us to take a step back down. We stay in that level by saying “No” to the Pharaohs that will try to compromise our calling. We stay in that level by guarding that promise God has given us and by staying alert and watchful. We stay in that level by seeking God, praying, reading, fasting and always “Putting Him First” in our lives.
Now Go! God has given us those words to speak. He’s given us everything we need to fulfill the calling on our lives. Now it’s up to us to act on it.
w/muchluv, geno
