Building Your Faith
And the winners of our FREE T-Shirt Contest are…ha ha…you thought it would be that easy. First you have to read through the entire column. Gabe invented a new technology that if you don’t first read EVERY WORD of the column, then the names of the winners will disappear. Anyways, enough of the sillyness. We want to thank all of you for your participation and patience, except for those people who kept asking for a free T-Shirt. You all bug already, jk. We love you all. I wish I could send each and every one of you a free T-Shirt, but Gabe hasn’t invented a “PutHimFirst.com T-Shirt Growing Tree” yet, but when he does I’ll make sure to get back to you.
The last few weeks I believe that God has been “Building Our Faith.” God has been challenging me to share certain areas of my testimony so that you can see “PROOF” that prayer works. Now it’s time to start putting that faith into action. How many of you signed up for the FREE T-Shirt contest? In doing so, you were using your faith. You believed that PutHimFirst.com was actually going to give out a FREE T-Shirt. You put your trust in me that I wasn’t just making up a contest and was actually going to follow through with it. If you can put your faith in a little contest, how much more should you be able to put your faith in God.
In the Bible, there was a man who brought his son to Jesus for prayer (Matthew 17:14-20). His son suffered from seizures and was said to have a demon in him. The man told Jesus, “I brought (my son) to your Disciples, but they could not heal him.” Jesus rebuked the demon and healed the man’s son right there.
A little later, the Disciples came to Jesus in private and asked Him why they weren’t able to drive out the demon. Jesus replied to them, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
The question then is: How do we get that “mustard seed” size faith?
The Disciples were awesome men of God. They literally turned the world upside down with the message of the Gospel. They did great works for the kingdom of God. They had great faith. They were the ones who founded the church, but before they accomplished all of these great things, they had to cultivate their faith. They had to plant that “mustard seed” and believe that it would grow.
We see in our scripture that the Disciples were unable to cast out this demon. At this time in their lives, they were still young in their faith. Jesus was teaching them and showing them what it took to have faith. I can see Jesus, shaking His head, telling Peter and John and James and the rest of them over and over, “Oh ye of little faith.” Not to condemn them, but to teach them and show them how to use that “mustard seed” to move mountains.
We go through many things and situations in our lives, but I believe God uses these trials and storms and also those breakthroughs and miracles to strengthen our faith. The Disciples believed in Jesus, but how much more did they believe in Him after He calmed the storms when they were in the boat (Matthew 8). Mary and Martha loved Jesus and believed in Him, but think of how their faith increased after they saw Jesus raise their brother Lazarus from the dead (John 11). Peter had no clue what to do or what to believe after Jesus was crucified. Imagine how great His faith became when He saw Jesus on the shore and he jumped in the sea and swam to Him (John 21).
And it’s the same in our lives, too. The more and more trust we put in Him and the more and more He comes through for us, our “mustard seed” faith starts to grow and God starts moving mountains in our lives. My God always comes through. Maybe not always the way we expect Him to, but always in the way that’s going to build our faith. Start believing today that He’s going to do that miracle in your life!!! Nothing is impossible if you have faith as big as a mustard seed.
