A Plan For You
Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for each and every one of our lives. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you.”
Psalm 139:13-18 says, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand.”
I feel that someone reading this column this week needs to hear this. God has called you. He has chosen you. He wants to do great things in and through you. You might have messed up in the past. You might not feel worthy to be used by Him again. You might feel small and insignificant. But God is saying, “I have chosen you. You are special to Me. You are the apple of My eye. I love you so very much. My plans for you are for good so that you will prosper.”
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Sometimes we get so bogged down with life. We get stuck where we are at and it seems like we’re not going anywhere. It seems like we are not doing anything. We think that things will never change. We can’t get over certain struggles and issues in our lives. We start to think that God can never use us. We let past failures, or the fear of failing again, keep us from moving forward in His call.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
I believe that if you are reading this column, you know about God and you do love Him. You do want to be used by Him. You want to let go of those things that have a grip on your life. You do want to change. But you say, “It’s hard.” And it’s true. Serving God was never meant to be easy. I could go through person after person in the Bible and prove that it wasn’t easy. Just look at the disciples. How many of them were martyred for the cause? Yet, the rewards are far greater than the struggles. All things do work together for good for those that love Him.
God is telling us this week to put our trust in Him. He is reminding us that He has a great plan for each and every one of us. How do we get to that place where God can use us? It’s by just having a willing heart. The great thing about God is that He doesn’t ask us to first get our lives together and have everything in order and be 100% perfect. He just calls us to come as we are. And when we come to Him broken, with a contrite spirit, open and willing, ready to do His will, then He will be able to take our lives and make us into the people He’s called us to be.
