Different

I haven’t had as much fun in worship as I did on this past Sunday evening in a long, long time. When God’s people come expecting and ready to worship God, it makes it so much easier to get into His presence. The Youth in our church had just come back from a retreat/conference and they came back on fire. As I started to lead, I could feel the excitement and the joy in the house of God. They all came to the front of the church and were just praising and worshiping God and we had a good ol’ time.

I’d been praying for a breakthrough. I’d been praying for God to do something in my life. I didn’t want to go into 2007 the same way I did 2006, 2005, 2004… This was the first time I led worship in our church this year and God just began showing me that this is only the beginning. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about this year and what it has in store. God is going to do some amazing things.

On New Years, my boy CRS had a concert at a church and afterwards we were able to go to his uncle’s house to celebrate the New Year. Well, to make a long story short, they had a guitar there and they kind of coerced me to play. I’m amazed at how God can use just a little thing like that to get your attention. As we were leaving, one of the people there said to me, “You’re a different person when you got that guitar in your hands.”

That’s what I want to be this year, “Different”. I don’t want to be the same as last year. I don’t want to settle for ordinary. I know that God has called me to do great and mighty things for Him. I know that when I’m walking in that calling and His anointing is upon me that I can lead a group of people in worship and usher them closer to God. Without Him, I’m just a shy person that would be sitting in the back row. With God, all things are possible.

I want to be a man of God like Caleb this year. The Bible calls him a man with a “different spirit” (Numbers 14:24). I want to be a worshiper like David. The Bible says He was a “man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). And most importantly, I want to live my life like Jesus did. He walked in God’s complete anointing and followed His Father’s will throughout His entire life on earth (Matthew 26:39).

It seems we start off every year saying, “This Is Our Year.” We start off every year with high expectations and goals and plans. What keeps us from achieving them? What hinders us from doing all that God’s called us to do? Sometimes it is fear, lack of faith, lack of trust in God, laziness, pride, hidden sin, etc. We need to pinpoint those areas in our lives where we are lacking and conquer them this year. He has called us to be “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37).

Do you really want that breakthrough? Do you really want to be set free? Do you really want to walk in His calling? If so, are you willing to give up those things you hold onto? Are you willing to sacrifice more of your time, more of your finances, more of yourself? I ask, because 2007 can truly be “Your Year”, but you have to be willing to change. You have to be willing to be “Different.

God has so much in store for you this year. I pray that you grab ahold of everything He has for you. As you “Put Him First” and start putting aside those things that are not of Him and grabbing ahold of those things that are, God is going to start moving through you like never before.
