"True Love"
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!! I could think of no greater love to write about today than the love from our Savior. I was looking back on some of my old columns and I realized that this is actually the first Valentine’s column I’ve written. I’m not quite the expert at love, (thus why I’m still single, ha jk) but I do know about the love from my God above.
I think sometimes we tend to forget how much God really loves us. I know for me, life can get so busy and I get distracted so easily with so many other things. Sometimes I just have to sit down and meditate on God’s word or re-read the gospels to see who this Man that died on a cross for my sins really was. I’ve been a Christian pretty much my whole entire life, so I’ve heard the stories about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus a million times. I’ve watched the movie, read the book, read books about the book, but its one thing to read and hear and watch. It’s the actual believing that His word is true that is the hard part, the whole faith aspect.
I find myself questioning my beliefs sometimes. Is God real? Did He really send His Son to walk this earth 2000 years ago? Did Jesus really die on the cross and rise again three days later? Can He really forgive me of my sins? Does He really love me? What if I’m wrong about what I believe in? What if some other religion is correct?
But when those thoughts start creeping in, God starts reminding me of everything He’s done for me. He saved me from a life of sin. He enables me to go forth in the gifts and callings He’s placed in my life. He’s done miracle after miracle. I really shouldn’t be alive today but for the grace of God. Time after time He’s come to my rescue. I’ve seen the worst of the worst be changed and touched by God’s power. I’ve seen healings in others and also in my own life. I’ve seen many of my family members and friends become saved.
How can I believe in a God I cannot see you may ask? My answer is that I do see Him. I see Him at work every day. When I look at the sky above, I marvel at His creation. When I look at where I used to be and where I am now, I know that without Him I would be nowhere. I have doubted in the past like Thomas did, but once Thomas felt those nail scarred hands, he was never the same. There were no more doubts. He went on to preach Christ all the way up till his death. And that’s what I want to do too.
I do believe in Jesus. His love and mercy is new every day. Every time I open my Bible or get on my knees to pray, I’m reminded of His love for me. Every time I pick up my guitar to play or sing love songs to my Savior, I find myself wrapped up in His arms. Every time I hear God’s word, it stirs me up inside. Our God is alive and moving. He loves each and every one of us so very much.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
God didn’t die for us because we were perfect or holy. He didn’t die for us because we were good. He died for us because we were sinners and in need of a Savior. He loved us all the way to death and even in death we see His outstretched arms. Even when He was on the cross, He still loved the very people that put Him there.
Luke 23:34 says, “Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
I write to you today, on a day the world celebrates its own version of love, about God’s love, the only “True Love”. His love reaches deeper than any ocean. It rises higher than any mountain. It goes beyond what we could ever imagine. As you go about your day today, be reminded that Jesus Loves You!!!
John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
w/muchluv, geno
