Direction
Over the last couple of months I’ve really been praying and asking God for direction and He’s really been doing some awesome things in my life. We just got our CD’s in (The PHF Compilation) and I was really happy with the way they turned out (go to our store to listen). We’re also getting ready for our Record Release Party on May 5th and God has really been opening door after door for us. I’m excited about where He is taking us and what He is about to do.
Isaiah 45:2-3 says, “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.”
I’ve always gone back to this scripture in my life when I start questioning what direction God wants me to go in. My mom gave me this scripture when I was in high school when I just learned that I had scoliosis, which is curvature of the spine. I was devastated. My whole world seemed to come crashing down. Some doctors said I would never live a normal life. They said I couldn’t play basketball anymore, and during that time, basketball was my life. Little did they know that I serve a healing God and a God that directs my every step.
It wasn’t until a couple years later that I started going to Victory Outreach and I found out that this was one of the scriptures that God had also given our founder, Pastor Sonny Arguinzoni. It was confirmation that God had brought me into this ministry. Even after college I had an opportunity to stay in Tulsa, Oklahoma and work at a newspaper/magazine there, but I knew God had called me to a specific ministry, and there was no VO there, so I knew that wasn’t where I was supposed to be.
God has always shown me what to do and where to go. It’s hard to understand why sometimes, because we tend to look at our situations in the natural. We try to fit all the pieces together in our own mind and figure out what will work best for us. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” I sure am glad that God works things out because if I had to trust my own way, I’d be in a lot of trouble.
Acts 13:1-3 reads, “Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.”
Do you want direction in your life? Do you want God to speak to you? I believe this scripture gives the key. These prophets and teachers were fasting and praying and seeking God about what they should do. It was then that the Holy Spirit spoke to them and showed Barnabas and Saul what to do. Along with fasting and praying we also need to read the scriptures.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
I really have been praying, reading and fasting and God never ceases to amaze me. He opens doors that no man can shut. He really does go ahead of us and makes the crooked paths straight. I know that without God, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Without His grace and mercy, I wouldn’t be able to write this column every week. Without His love, I would be lost and bound.
God has so much planned for your life. He’s just looking for willing vessels. Open your heart to Him today and really start to seek Him. He will give you that “Direction” that you need in your life. He will show you which road to travel.
