Let Go

There was a time in my life where I was struggling with my walk with God. I had one foot in the church and one foot in the world and I heard God speak so clearly to me, “If you don’t stop what you’re doing, you’re going to lose everything that I gave to you.” I didn’t heed to the words that He had given me and I kept doing what I was doing and slowly I started to see everything fall apart until I found myself out of God’s will completely. I found myself away from church completely. I found myself away from God’s presence completely. I was sitting at my apartment all alone one day with so much hurt and pain in my heart. I was tired of doing what I was doing. I missed being in God’s presence. I missed being able to pick up my guitar and worship Him. I remember feeling such a void in my life which I knew could only be filled by God.

It’s so hard to let go sometimes. It’s hard to get passed our insecurities. It’s hard to forgive that person that wronged us. And sometimes it’s even harder to forgive ourselves. I’ve found that I can go to God and ask Him for forgiveness, and He is faithful and just to forgive us of all our sins if we take it under the blood of Jesus, but to forgive myself sometimes it seems more difficult to do. And the enemy will always try to bring up your past and get you to forget that you’ve already dealt with it and God has already forgiven you. That’s why when the devil attacks us with those thoughts we have to bind them in Jesus Name. We have to remind the enemy that our God died on the cross so that we could be made free.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Isaiah 54:17 says, “‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.”

James 4:7 says, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

There have been other times where I had to let go of certain friendships. I had a friend in college that I used to do everything with. We were close and he became like a brother to me, but he was hindering my walk with God. We started off as friends and I was influencing him to get closer to God, but after some time I started to notice that he was influencing me to compromise my faith. One of the hardest things in my life was to go up to him and tell him that I couldn’t hang out with him any more. I loved God so much though that I was willing to part with that relationship so that my relationship with God could grow stronger.

Ephesians 4:22-24 says, “Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

It’s not always easy to let go, but when we do and when we place our problems and our struggles in His hands, that’s when we start to get those breakthroughs in our lives. That’s when we start to be free. Those chains are broken. That fear and anxiety starts to disappear. God’s love begins to give us that peace that passes all understanding. He wraps us in His arms and it is in that place where we are able to trust completely in Him.

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

God knows what you’re struggling with in your walk right now. It might be something from your past that keeps holding you back from moving forward. It might be a certain someone that you know you shouldn’t be with. It might be a hidden sin that nobody knows about but you. It might be unforgiveness in your heart. God is telling you right now to let it go. You cannot be free until you do. Take it to the cross. Bring it before God and ask Him to carry that burden for you. He loves you so much and wants you to live a victorious life. You don’t have to worry. You don’t have to stress out. When you place your life in His hands, all things work out for His glory.

As you go about your week, start to examine those areas in your life where you’re struggling. Ask God, “What do I need to ‘Let Go’ in my life?” And when He shows you, you need to just “Let Go.”
