God Sees You
I think too many times we have the wrong impression of how God sees us. We think He sits up in Heaven watching us like Santa Claus trying to figure out who’s naughty and who’s nice. We look at Him as someone that sees us as either saints or sinners. God isn’t sitting up in Heaven with a lightning bolt ready to zap us as soon as we sin. He looks at us with love and mercy and grace. He looks at us through the blood of Jesus, forgiven and washed white as snow.
God sees you not as who you are right now. He sees you as that complete person you are going to be. God doesn’t see you in your past, present or future. He looks at you through eternal eyes. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. The Bible says that He knew you even before you were formed in your mother’s womb. God looks at you and sees the fulfillment of the promise that He gave to you.
If you were to grab ahold of this concept, I believe that it would change the way you look at God and the way you look at yourself. We get so caught up in our past mistakes that they start to hinder our walk with God. We start to think, “I’ve messed up. God can never use me again.” We think thoughts like, “I’ve disqualified myself from being used by God.” When we let our past control our lives we cannot walk into the perfect will God has for us. We need to let the blood of Jesus cover our sins, our faults, our mistakes and move on passed the past.
Then we find ourselves right here, right now. The present can also be a hindrance to our walk with God. We start thinking, “I don’t know how I’m going to get out of this situation I’m currently in.” “I’m in so much debt” or “I don’t have enough finances to do what God’s called me to do.” “I don’t have enough education. I’m not smart enough. I’m not wise enough. I’m not equipped enough.”
The present can overwhelm us. The enemy will throw stumbling blocks in your way to get you sidetracked. Instead of moving forward with your calling, you start getting caught up in the here and now. Don’t get me wrong, we do have things that we need to take care of. Situations arise that we need to put our focus on, but that shouldn’t deter us from the ultimate goal of being who God’s called us to be.
What has God promised you? Everyone was asked at some point in their lives, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” A doctor? A fireman? A preacher? An astronaut? An NBA player? A cop? Whatever it is you once said, are you living that dream today? Some dreams aren’t meant to come true. I wanted to be a professional basketball player in the NBA, but that was an unrealistic dream. But God’s promises and dreams that He gives to you will come to pass if you are faithful to trust in Him and seek Him and allow Him to bring to completion that work in your life.
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always dreamed of making music. I believe God put that desire in my heart and today I’m blessed to say that I’m doing just that. I’ve always wanted to write for God and that’s what I’m doing even today as I’m writing this column. There are other promises that God’s put in my heart and I’m standing firm on His Word that He will bring forth what He said He will do.
“God Sees You” as His beloved. He sees you as His most valued treasure. You are the apple of His eye. He sees you walking in that calling and having life and life more abundantly. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past. It doesn’t matter where you are right now or what you’re currently going through. God loves you and He is faithful to complete that work that He started in you.
Some of you need to let go of those things you’ve been holding onto. Grudges against others will only hinder your worship to God. Some of you need to give whatever you’re struggling with over to God. You might not be free from it over night, but give it to God and start focusing on where you need to be in Him instead of where you are right now. Some of you have let that vision slip away. You figured it was never going to come to pass so you gave up on it. You might have thought that God took it away from you because of your sin. We serve a merciful God. Go to Him and ask Him for forgiveness. He isn’t finished with you yet. God is calling you to grab ahold of that vision once again.
Start seeing yourself as God sees you. You are special to Him. He loves you so very much. He calls you a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to Him (1 Peter 2:9). If you grab ahold of this concept it will change your life forever. “God Sees You” as who you are in Him, not as who you are in this world.
