Rekindle That Fire
I had the opportunity to lead worship at my church (Victory Outreach Houston) this past Sunday night and I always count it a privilege to be used by God. I hadn’t led in awhile and honestly I had been missing it. I know God’s given me songs that were meant to bring joy unto His church. He’s given me songs that were meant to draw people closer to Him. He’s given me songs that minister. He’s given me songs to inspire, uplift and to give people hope. I know I may not have the best singing voice. I may not be the greatest guitarist. I just know that I have a desire to worship God. The Bible says to make a joyful noise unto the Lord and that’s what I try to do.
God is always right on time. Just when you think you can’t go on, He reminds of you of that calling He’s placed in your life. Just when you think it’s not going to happen, God starts bringing into existence that promise. We all go through dry times in our lives. We all have doubted God at one time or another, but He always, always comes through for us.
I’ve come to find that life itself doesn’t matter if there is nothing to live for. As Christians though, we have everything to live for. God has given you a calling. He’s given you a purpose. You are somebody special. God created you. He formed you when you were in your mother’s womb. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. I say this in a lot of my columns because it’s important to remember not where you’ve been, not where you are right now, but where you are going. God chose you. He called you. He has a plan and destiny for your life.
I’ve been trying to grab ahold of that calling He has in my life again. It seemed for a time that I was complacent. I got satisfied with where I was and what I had already done. I didn’t want to face a new challenge. I know what it’s like to fight the good fight, and I know it gets hard at times. That’s when I heard God speak to me. He said, “I’m not through with you yet! I still have great and mighty plans for your life. This is just the beginning.”
I’m not going to lie to you. It’s not easy being a Christian. It’s not easy keeping that fire burning. It’s not easy fighting off temptation. There are days I feel like just giving up. There are days I want to throw in the towel. There are days where I don’t want to get up out of bed. How do we get past those hard times in our lives? How do we get past the dry patches?
What keeps me going is that promise God gave to me. God told me that the words that He’s given me and the songs that He’s given me will go out and reach people for His honor and His glory. I’m amazed time after time how something I could write could affect someone’s life. In myself I’m no one special, but by God’s grace and His love He chose to use me. It is humbling to know that an all powerful and all knowing God would trust me with such a task.
Our God is a good God. He knows exactly what to give us to keep us going. There are going to be hard times, but He will be there with us through it all. There are going to be storms and trials, but He’s already given us what we need to overcome them. Even in times where nothing seems to be going right, God has already set forth the path which we need to follow.
My Pastor’s been talking a lot about destiny lately and it’s really stirred up that calling that God’s placed in my heart. The enemy will try to fill your mind with lies. He will try and tell you that you can’t succeed. He will try and get you off track and going in the wrong direction. He doesn’t want to see you become all God’s called you to be. That’s why it is so important we be in prayer and be in the Word so that we can hear clearly from God.
2 Timothy 1:6 says to “stir up the gift of God which is in you.” That’s what I challenge you to do today. What has God called you to do? Get busy and do it! Get back in the game. Stop sitting on the sidelines and watching your life go to waste. God has entrusted you with gifts and talents. Don’t bury them away. Use them for His honor and His glory and rekindle that fire that once burned bright within.
