The Lord had told Moses to send some men to explore the Promise Land. The children of Israel were camped out next to the Jordan River getting ready to cross over into their inheritance. I can imagine the excitement and the thrill. This is where God had promised them they would end up. When the men returned from spying out the land, the whole congregation gathered together to hear their report. They brought with them clusters of grapes and other fruits of the land. They said to Moses that the land was flowing with milk and honey just like God had promised. (Numbers 13)

I’ll stop right there for a moment before I move on deeper into this story. God had promised the children of Israel this land. This is where their voyage through the wilderness was leading them. The land was already theirs. They just had to cross over and conquer it. By this time they must have known God’s power. They saw Egypt destroyed, the Red Sea parted, God’s provisions of manna and water. But still yet they didn’t believe.

“There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (Numbers 13:33)

This was their report. These men took their eyes off the promise and placed them on their inabilities. This is a defeated person’s claim. These were men that forgot who God was. When the rest of the children of Israel heard that there were giants in the land, they too became afraid. Israel would have to wait until one generation passed away before they were able to cross over.

We all get to our Jordans in our Christian walk. This is the place where we decide if we are going to cross over and start walking in God’s calling or we decide we’re going to turn back away and wander in the wilderness for another forty years. It’s the place where we decide if we are going to trust God or if we are going to trust in what we see. It’s not always an easy decision to cross over the Jordan. There are battles and there are giants, but there are also fruits and milk and honey.

We all fall prey to a “Grasshopper Mentality” now and then. We start convincing ourselves that we’re too small. We don’t have enough faith. We don’t have enough money. We don’t have the skills or the talents. The giants are too big. The obstacles are too tall.

Did God promise you that your family would be saved? Did He promise you that you would get out of debt? Did He promise you that you would be a teacher, preacher, minister or evangelist? Did He promise you that wife/husband? Did He promise you that healing, that breakthrough, that miracle?

Grab ahold of it then!!! Be like Joshua and Caleb. They believed God was bigger than the giants in the land. They believed that God was more than able. They believed that He would fulfill all those things that He promised.

“Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.’” (Numbers 13:30)

Deuteronomy 7:9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”

God is faithful to His promises, but we need to learn a lesson from the Israelites. God always upholds His end of the deal, but we must also uphold ours. Israel was only able to walk in their promise when they trusted God completely and obeyed Him. When they got rid of their “Grasshopper Mentality” and started to believe that they were more than conquerors, they were able to cross over. If we are to see God move in our lives, then we must do the same. Cross over your Jordan today!!

2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”
