Self Evaluation

I got a lot of responses from last week’s column. Everyone kept telling me to hang in there and keep pressing on. Thank you all for the encouragement, but I’m not really quitting, ha. I try being transparent in these columns. I write what is in my heart from week to week. I know what God’s called me to do. I’m secure in Him and I’m not going to quit on Him. And besides, you can’t get rid of me that easy. You’re still going to have to put up with my writing for awhile, ha.

I’m just going to write today. I have a lot of things on my mind, so we’ll see where this column takes us. I am truly grateful. God has blessed me with so much. I really don’t know where I’d be today if I didn’t have Him in my life. He’s always been faithful and true, even when I slip and stumble. He’s always been good to me, even when I’m bad to Him. He’s always quick to forgive, even when I’m quick to sin. How He continues to love a wretch like me, I will never know.

“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)

Where are you in your walk with Christ? I know I ask that question a lot, but I feel it is always important to do a self evaluation of where you are with Him. Do you read His Word? Do you pray? Do you go to church? Are you ashamed of being a Christian? What areas are you lacking in? What areas are you strong in? What could you do better to serve Him?

Many times as Christians we tend to beat ourselves up. There are areas in all of our lives that we need work on. There are certain character flaws that need improving. There are certain issues that have yet to be dealt with. There are sins that need to be overcome. It seems like every time we fail or mess up again, we start to criticize ourselves. We hate what we do and feel unworthy to be used by God anymore.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1)

This does not give us permission to sin, but when we do fall, we can know that we can go to God and ask Him for forgiveness. God understands you better than you even understand yourself. He knows the areas you struggle in. He knows your weaknesses. He knows the temptations that you have a hard time overcoming. He knows those thoughts that are hard to resist.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

This week let’s take a look at our lives. Let’s evaluate those things that we need to work on. Don’t beat yourself up, though. We have all sinned and fallen short. We’ll continue to make mistakes down the road, but our God is faithful to His Word. If we confess our sins to Him, He will forgive us. I want to encourage you to get back up when you fall and keep moving on. The enemy would like nothing more than to see you stuck in self pity. God has so much love for you. He has great things planned for your life. Don’t let mistakes hold you back. When we are weak, He is strong. God Bless.

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10)
