What Happens In Vegas…
Just a little disclaimer, this week’s column will probably be a little short. I know many of you are thinking: IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! Ha, but seriously it’s been a crazy long weekend and I just got off from working what seemed to be hours upon hours of overtime at my job, so I’m pretty exhausted. Nonetheless, I have a column to write, and boy what a column it will be I’m sure.
This past weekend the PHF crew took a trip to the city of sin, Las Vegas, Nevada. We had set up this trip months ago expecting to be part of a rap festival that was supposed to take place there. It turns out, about a week before the concert we find out that the show’s been canceled. What could we do? We had already booked our plane tickets, made room arrangements and got everything squared away. We made a few phone calls and were able to salvage the trip with a show on Friday. God always opens up doors, even when you have no idea what you’re going to do.
To be honest, I was a little mad and disappointed about the show being canceled. As many of you may recall, we had a festival canceled on us a few weeks earlier, and this one was ran by the same person. Our summer plans seemed to be all coming apart. But God has a way of taking you to places you’d never expect. We contacted a Pastor in Vegas and he set us up with a show at a school outreach. We didn’t know what to expect. In my mind I thought, it would be great if even a few kids showed up, but God had bigger plans.
We get to the place and it turns out that the event is at a huge school. They start busing in kids from all over the city for this outreach. I was truly amazed about the door God opened up for us. We were able to minister in music and I believe we were able to make an impact over there. Though we weren’t able to make an altar call, like we usually do, we could see that people were receiving and listening to the music and really getting into it.
I think one thing that I really learned in all of this is that you have to trust that God knows what He’s doing. Sometimes that’s hard. We don’t always understand why God takes us here or there, why He allows us to come into contact with this person or that person. We don’t always understand why some things fall apart either. You pray and ask God for direction and you feel you’re making the right choice, and then your concert gets canceled. It would be easy to quit. It would be easy to say things aren’t going exactly as planned so I’m not going to follow through with them.
If I can leave you with one thing this week, it would be to take your eyes off your circumstances or situations. When things come up unexpected in your life, don’t panic. Look to God first in everything. He really does know what He’s doing. He always has something better in store for you.
As for the rest of the weekend, well you know the saying, “What happens in Vegas… stays in Vegas.”
Ha, God bless and have a great week!!! I promise to have tons of words for you to read next week.
