A New Direction

When one door closes, God opens up another. I’ve always found this to be true. I’m sort of in a transition phase in my life right now. I have a few decisions I have to make about my future. There have been a couple changes in my life and I’m just trying to figure out where to go from here. I won’t get into specifics quite yet, but keep me in your prayers. One thing I do know is that God has something great in store.

I’m excited about where PHF is headed. We have some new music we’re working on that I believe is going to impact a lot of lives. Stay tuned because in the next few weeks we’re going to have some free downloads available. We’re also revamping our website (Gabe has been putting in some extra work), and we’re going to have some new videos up soon too. We have a lot of good concert footage (some bad too, ha) that just needs to be chopped up and posted. We’ll be posting new concert dates up soon, also.

Missing one column because of the hurricane threw me off a week in my writing, so I wanted to mention our trip to Raton, New Mexico a couple weeks ago. Victory Outreach Raton put on a drama there and invited us out to open up for the drama. God moved in a powerful way. The altar call was amazing as the whole stage was filled with people giving their lives to Jesus. Then Sunday morning we were also able to do worship for the church. God is so good. Raton is my hometown, where I grew up, so it is always special going back there to visit my home church. Pastor Poncho and all of VO Raton has always been a blessing to us.

God has really been showing me lately that He’s taking me in “A New Direction”. What does that mean? I wish I could tell you, ha. I just know that things aren’t going to be the same in my life. I was searching through the scriptures and I came across a very familiar Bible character, Abraham. He is known as the “Father of Faith” and God began to show me that during Abraham’s life, He earned this title by trusting in God to lead Him.

“Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.” (Genesis 12:1-4)

Abraham was 75 years old when God took him in “A New Direction”. I can’t imagine being that old and having to pack up everything I own and set out on a journey far away. They didn’t have cars and planes back in those days either, so traveling wasn’t convenient. One thing I like about Abraham was that when God told him to do something, he did it.

I’ve been guilty in my life of not doing what God told me to do. I can remember instances where God would tell me to go pray for someone or go talk to someone and I’d hesitate and the opportunity would slip by. Looking back I could smack myself for some of the mistakes I’ve made. God would specifically tell me not to go there or not to do that and I wouldn’t heed His words. Then I’d find myself in situations that I should have never been in. We’ve all done that. We learn from mistakes as we go, but if we’d just listen to God in the first place, we would have never had to go through some things.

Abraham made some mistakes along the way, but He always trusted in God. I’m trying to do that too. Sometimes it’s hard. When things aren’t going your way or when obstacles come up, we tend to try to find our own solutions instead of trusting in God. If you look at Abraham’s life in the book of Genesis that was the key to him becoming the “Father of Faith.” Where God told him to go, he went. What God told him to do, he did. He was even willing to sacrifice his own son to please God (Genesis 22).

I don’t know if God’s taking you in “A New Direction”. Where you are right now might be exactly where He wants you to be at this time. Just be open to hearing from Him when He does ask you to move. I just want to be where God wants me to be. I hope that’s your prayer too.
