Change

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” (Romans 13:1)

Today is a historic day here in America. Barack Obama has been elected the next President of the United States. He is the first African-American to be chosen for the office and it shows that we’ve come a long way as a country. I might not agree with all of his politics, but I congratulate him and look forward to see how the next four years shape out. I urge all of you to pray for Obama and pray for our country as we enter a new chapter in our history.

What does it mean for us here in the United States? Obama’s campaign was built around the slogan of “Change”. With the stock market collapsing, wars around the world, unemployment rising, fears of what the future holds, we do need a “Change”. Instead of fear and dread, we do need hope. We need something to hold onto during hard times and something to strive towards for a better life.

I’m not talking about a change that any president or any government can offer, though. I’m talking about a change inside our own hearts, a change within our own lives. More than ever before, our country needs to turn our hearts back to God. The next president can promise us many things, but only God is in control of the future. We need to return to our roots, where our forefathers proclaimed that we would be “One Nation Under God.”

I believe that we live at a crucial time in history. Open up your eyes and you will see that the world is slowly deteriorating. I don’t like to sound like a crazy man with a megaphone at the corner of a busy intersection shouting that “The End Is Near!” I refrain a lot from talking about Christ’s return and the Apocalypse because I’m not really an expert at those discussions, but I do know my Bible and the signs are becoming more and more evident. The end is rapidly approaching.

She hears a knock on her door. She feels a tug at her heart. Amidst all the chaos that surrounds her, God is still calling her out by name. Will she listen? Will she obey? Will she turn from her wicked ways? America, the beautiful, has turned away from everything she was founded upon. Once a mighty and powerful nation, she has become a reproach among the nations. Once a lighthouse and beacon of hope to the world, she has become corrupt and lost her way.

I believe that we are living in the end times. I believe that we have strayed from where God has called us to be. But I also believe that it isn’t too late. God is calling our nation once again unto repentance. He is on the verge of releasing a revival that will change the hearts and minds of people all around the world.

It starts with you. It starts with me. Maybe you have gone astray. Maybe you haven’t prayed or read your Bible in awhile. Maybe you haven’t been to church in years. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day that you can come back to Christ. He is calling you right now, even as you’re reading this column. Give Him your heart today. Let Him back within. Let Him make that “Change” in your life today.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
