 PutHimFirst.com 10 ?'s with Lisa Gungor

PHF: How long have you been singing and when was your first performance in front of a group of people?

Lisa: I started singing when I was really little with my brother and sister. Walt Disney cartoons and Psalty The Singing Song Book became the majority of our repertoire. When I was five years old, my mom put us on this Christian TV station and we sang "Say To The Lord I Love You" - I can't believe I still remember all of the words!

 PHF:Influences? Musically and Spiritually?

Lisa: My influences musically are: Nichole Nordeman, John Mayer, Chick Corea, Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan, Mindy Smith, U2, Mute Math, Sarah Groves, Damien Rice, India Aire, and Vanessa Carlton.

Spiritually my influences are: Brian McLaren, Don Miller, John Ortberg, Ed Gungor (my father-in-law), and Nichole Nordeman (the best songwriter ever).

PHF: Since you have a song about seasons, "I Feel Change", what is your favorite season?

Lisa: Hmm….I really do love all of the seasons, but I guess I'd have to say fall is my favorite - especially in Grand Rapids. Fall is actually when I wrote "Change."

PHF: Last 3 CD's in your CD player?

Lisa: Cold Play (X&Y), Nichole Nordeman (Brave), and United (Look To You)

PHF: Favorite Bible character and why?

Lisa: My favorite character is David. He's said to be a man after God's own heart and an extreme worshiper. And yet, he committed some intense stuff (murder, adultery) But even though he messed up, God saw his heart - his life remains such an example of God's grace, forgiveness, and unconditional love.

PHF: Does Michael dress himself, or do you pick out his clothes for him?

Lisa: Michael does dress himself, though sometimes I am forced to intervene.

PHF: The first time I heard you sing was in a class at ORU. It was in the discussion class of Charismatic Life and Healing in the discussion class. You sang a song for one of the assignments. I've been a fan ever since. Do you remember the song?

Lisa: Wow…I don't remember the song, and don't even remember doing that. I am humbled and extremely embarrassed to know that I would sing for class…but I refuse to believe that I did, so let's just pretend that never happened…

PHF: I know you and Michael travel a lot. What's the most interesting place you've been?

Lisa: The most interesting place we have been would definitely have to be Hawaii. We went there to lead worship for a leadership conference, and it was absolutely beautiful! The resort we stayed at was gorgeous, and we had a lot of free time to relax. One day, we - myself, Michael, David (Michael's brother) and Bethany (a girl we met there) rented a jeep to drive to the volcanoes. Well, our 4 hour drive ended up being a 10 hour test of enduring storms, mud, and crazy tourists who ran into us. It was awesome. Did I mention David and Bethany are getting married?

PHF: What's on the horizon for both you and Michael?

Lisa: We have been traveling a lot with Teen Mania Ministries this past year, and we are scheduled to lead their events this next year as well. We absolutely love being a part of the Acquire The Fire events and feel that they have become a main piece in this season of our lives. We have been working on a new cd that will be released at the events this fall, and after the ATF cd is done, Michael will start working on his next album.

Aside from Teen Mania, we will be traveling to a variety of churches, and maybe even Europe for a two-week tour. Other than traveling, I plan to sit at home as much as possible and cuddle with my husband and my dog, Gus.

PHF:What do you do before anything else?

 Lisa: Hmmm…that's a hard one…let me think…Put Him First!!!
